Do you need to fill in API to visit Greece from the UK?

I have a large group of friends (24) travelling to Greece from the UK, when we went to pick up our travel documents the woman asked if we had filled in our Thomson API (Advanced Passenger Information). So my question is, Do we actually need to fill in our API to travel to a neighbouring European country? and what would happen if not all 24 people completed it?

As far as I can make out, API is required by some airline companies and most likely it is used for their own recording.

It is also a simple procedure. In case this is really needed by EU countries just fill it in so that you have no worries when you land.

I feel that this is a new trick to make people avoiding Greece.

I have flown many times to the UK with Thomson and have never had to fill in an API form. This is the first time I've heard of one

It is a requirement under EU rules. At first it was taken at check-in as that's actually advanced enough, and it's only the passport details, but with on line check in and to speed up airport queues they normally ask for it to be put on line earlier

I have travelled from UK to Greece and back many times, I never had to fill anything. For EU citizens they can travel to and fro Greece with just a passport (no visas or any other document required). This also include US, Australia and Canada and some others as well. If your friends or at least one of them is from another country that the above, he will need a visa. I have no idea about this application, they never asked me to fill anything like that. Maybe it is the airline. I fly with Aegean airlines or Easy Jet. They never asked me to fill anything.

API is a security measure introduced by some countries, the airlines must comply with it.
